July 4, 2025 (Facebook Video) Geezers On Ice World Tour plays July 4th at Lakeside Manor 2025 (Waterboro, Maine)... Video Here: BLUES ROCK GROOVE IN Dm (Backing Tracks Center).
THE CONCEPT:
Make your later years years - count! I want to see "seasoned" (older) musicians pick up their dreams again and realize that "It's Never Too Late To Do What You Love!" I want to see your creative juices flowing and see you get excited about doing something completely new... something built collaboratively out of whole cloth between a group of geezers. And if we leave this life living our dreams, won't that be a *good* thing? (Yes!!!)
OLD GUYS NEED A NEW BEGINNING:
There's nothing I hate to hear more than a seasoned musician saying they quit playing entirely because of various factors. Often what I hear is "I was sick of lugging my gear to the clubs and playing late into the night for basically gas money..." I spent plenty of time in the club circuit as a lead vocalist for a "metal-edged" classic rock band, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band and a Led Zeppelin tribute band, so I know the feeling..!! At the time we all drank way too much and were lucky if we got out of a gig breaking even on our bar tab...
However, now I've been sober since 1992 (it's a good thing because I probably wouldn't have survived otherwise!) and have a much larger vision... I'd like to take credit for it, but it's a driving force beyond my own ambitions... I'd have to attribute it to 'Divine Inpsiration'... Or as the Blues Brother said, "I'm on a mission from God!"
My biography is on another page here but in short a driving passion led me to begin learning lead guitar on my 50th birthday in early 2010. I've had NO desire to learn covers and always told any instructor, "Just give me the tools... I want to build my *own* style from scratch. And to date that is what I've done. Certainly there are subconscious influences from some of my favorite players which we can discuss in person, but I won't take up time here. The point is, at 50 years old I began a new journey that has led me here and I believe there are many out there wishing for another opportunity but feeling the situation will never be right for their circumstances.
BUT IT'S PAST MY BEDTIME & MY BACK HURTS!
Yep... me too! I've had fibromyalgia my entire life and really severe since 1996, so I'm familiar with painful muscle cramps, low back pain, fatigue and aching joints as well. I think the only thing that makes sense is to work within your limitations... this means not overextending oneself for little reward! There will be loads of fun creating music, working together to come up with good songs, recording in the studio... and then the *occassional* select gigs! There will be no pressure to get out there three nights a week and "make the chicks dance"... Let's face it, some of the "chicks" we've known growing up would probably throw a hip if they danced too hard anyway..!!
For the record: the "Geezers On Ice World Tour" project is envisioned as more of "show band" than a "club band"... mainly fun jams and improvisation that brings life to our musical souls.!!
PLAYING WITH A PURPOSE:
Geezers are a unique bunch with a lot of talent and a lot of life experience to share with the next generations. We have a love of God, family, our country and of our music that is a positive influence that the world sorely needs to hear right now! One by one we are watching our friends and family leave us... We realize we have less years ahead than behind and know that we *should* make them count. Having goals and dreams will make the latter years more productive, happier, and healthier in many ways. No geezer should leave this world saying, "I wish I had... [fill in the blank]..." Geezers can bring *hope* to the masses while elevating their own existence!
LASTLY: IT'S JUST PLAIN FUN!
On a purely selfish and personal level, who doesn't need a little relief from all pain and craziness in this world! We all need to have a little fun...!! In keep with one of my slogans, "You only live once... have some fun with it..!!", I've sprinkled photos around the page of various guitarists and others wearing my "Deej SG" t-shirts... "I'm not famous, but I do have cool shirts!" (Yep, another one of my sayings!) Hope you enjoy them and that you catch the vision... life is NOT over until it's over!
